THE RACE OF THE CHAMPIONS – BACKYARD MASTERS

The 10.000,- € Challenge

THE RACE OF THE CHAMPIONS – BACKYARD MASTERS is a race where Top-Athlets will run together and against each other. The race is open end and follows strict the official Backyard rules.

The race in 2025 is perfect for runners who are already qualified for the Invividual Backyard Championships in October in Tennessee. 5 Month before the Championships they can run with and against other runners on the same high level. Also runners, who are not qualified, but like to get a ticket on the At-large list, will need a race with the best chance to run >80 loops. The Backyard Masters will make it happen.

Qualification to participate: To get an invitation, you have to be a successful Backyard runner (+50 loops). Other ultra-long-distance runners like Megarace-winner, Spine Race-winner, TOR-, 6days race winners, etc. can ask for invitation. On a later date it might be possible to fill up the starting field with Baykyard runners >35 loops.

Beside the above qualifications, there is another option. As you maybe know, Roxy (RDs wife) fight a strong difficult cancer since this year. So we decided that female athletes who are cancer survivers and able to run an ultra distance, no matter how long, can ask us to participate too. They might be not able to win this race, but they can teach even the toughest 100 loop runner a lesson in fighting and to never give up.

Prize Money Modus

10,000 € to the overall winner (with a 100 runners starter field)

Each runner will be given a 100€ bill together with the bib before the start to carry the entire race. If the runner desires to stop or times out of the race, they will place the 100€ bill into a transparent box for the overall winner to claim at the end. The Last Man Standing will also place the bill into the box and the box with 100×100€ bills will be handovered to the winner. If there is no winner (tie means no win!), the box will be a jackpot for 2026.

Here is a FAQ for the race

  1. What is the closest Airport?
    • FRA (Frankfurt Int.) is one hour by car away from Rettert
  2. How to go from the FRA to Rettert?
    • Well, that’s the real challenge, because we are Hillbillies living in a Hillbillie-Area ;-). If you have a flight ticket, contact me for help. ;-). With a rental car very easy. Use your google maps and you are in Rettert within an hour. By public transport there are two some options:
      • Airport Railwaystation with RB10 to St.Goarshausen – Bus 580 to Rettert
      • Train to Wiesbaden Hbf and then by Bus 275 or X76 to Holzhausen. From there someone will pick you up or you walk. (3km away from Rettert)
  3. Is there a grocery store or something close to the track?
    • No!
    • Grocery Stores are 5km away, 10min by car. If you are here by public transport, many people from Orga or Crew will go to the stores and you will get a lift
  4.  How many Crew can I bring?
    • We have no limit, but you should not bring all your facebook followers
  5.  Can I bring my own tent, gazebo, pavillion?
    • Sure, we have some space around the corral for 10-15 gazebos. If you bring your own 3x3m pavillion, another runner will join.
  6.  I come by plane but like to have a chair and a tent. Can you help?
    • Yes,of course. You buy from Amazon.de and let them deliver to my home, or I can buy for you.
